Spiritual posture is not just about what we do, but the state of our hearts as we do it. As Jesus taught, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." Today, we're focusing on three essential postures that help us live a life fueled by God's presence: humility, gratitude, and forgiveness.
Pride is the root of many sins, often leading to a "self-first" attitude that pushes God out. Proverbs 16:18 warns us that "Pride goes before destruction," while James 4:6 reminds us that "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Grace is God’s empowering presence in our lives. A humble heart recognizes our complete dependence on God for everything—salvation, strength, and guidance. Humility is also about honoring others and putting their interests before our own, as Philippians 2:3-4 instructs. It’s an "others-first" mindset that reflects the heart of Christ. Take a moment to ask God to reveal any areas of pride and commit to practicing true honor in your daily interactions.
A complaining heart is an ungrateful heart. It fixates on what we lack, breeding bitterness and envy. In contrast, a grateful heart shifts our perspective from scarcity to abundance, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). Scripture repeatedly calls us to give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Gratitude is a discipline we must cultivate daily. Make thanking God a conscious part of your prayers and intentionally express thanks to those around you. This simple act can transform your outlook and deepen your relationship with God.
An unforgiving heart is toxic. It holds onto resentment and anger, poisoning our spirits and damaging our relationships. Jesus teaches that if we do not forgive others, our Heavenly Father will not forgive us (Matthew 6:14-15). Forgiveness isn't about pretending the hurt didn't happen; it's about releasing the debt and choosing to let God handle the justice. It is a powerful reflection of the immense grace and mercy God has shown us. Is there anyone you need to forgive? Pray and ask for the strength to release the offence, just as God has forgiven you.
Let's strive to cultivate a heart posture that honours God every day of the week, not just on Sunday
